Meet The Team

Dr. Carrie Bonds is a highly accomplished optometrist from Birmingham, Alabama, and the eldest of three children. She graduated from Homewood High School in 2000, excelling academically at the University of Alabama, where she was awarded Cum Laude status in 2004. After completing her Doctorate of Optometry at UAB School of Optometry in 2009, Dr. Carrie gained invaluable experience through internships in primary care, pediatrics, ocular disease, and low vision - as well as externships at Vision America and the Birmingham VA hospital.

Following graduation, Dr. Carrie has spent years serving patient in Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities.  Most recently spending 10 years serving patients inside of her practice in LensCrafters. Dr. Carrie used her expertise to promote eye health throughout the region, diagnosing conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration while providing comprehensive eye exams and treatments to improve vision-related matters.

Since beginning to practice in 2009, she has enjoyed caring for patients of all ages, ranging from babies to seniors. Dr. Carrie particularly enjoys fitting contact lenses and helping her patients improve their vision to its best potential. In her free time, she loves spending quality time with her husband and two daughters and keeping active with hobbies such as camping, playing the piano, and running.

Dr. Laura Bonds was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, as the middle child of a close-knit family. She graduated from Homewood High School before receiving her English degree from Birmingham Southern College in 2006. Her older sister Carrie, an optometrist with Family Eye Group, encouraged her to pursue the same career path.  Laura attended UAB optometry school after completing the required pre- requisite courses.  During her fourth and final year of studies, she interned in pediatric, ocular disease, and low vision clinics, where she gained experience caring for patients of all ages and backgrounds.

After earning her doctorate of optometry from UAB in 2014, she joined her sister Carrie where she has practiced optometry at The Family Eye Group for the past 9 years.  She has enjoyed serving patients of all ages.  She has experience with complex contact lens fittings, glaucoma evaluations, diabetic eye exams and more. She also enjoys fitting patients with the perfect glasses prescription to help them achieve their visual goals. 

She has spent 9 years caring for her patients in Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities.  Dr. Laura has delighted in getting  getting to know the patients. In her free time, she likes to relax by playing the guitar, running or just spending quality time with her husband and their two beagles.
