Dr. Carrie Bonds

Dr. Carrie Bonds is a licensed optometrist in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the founder of The Family Eye Group. She provides comprehensive eye exams, ocular disease management, and advanced contact lens care for patients of all ages, from infants to seniors.
Dr. Bonds earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the UAB School of Optometry in 2009 and has proudly called Tuscaloosa home for the past 15 years. In 2014, she founded The Family Eye Group with the goal of creating a patient-centered eye care practice focused on thorough care, clear communication, and long-term eye health.
With extensive experience in eye disease diagnosis and management, Dr. Bonds treats conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. She has a special passion for contact lenses, including specialty lens fittings for patients with complex prescriptions, and enjoys helping patients achieve their best possible vision.
Most recently, Dr. Bonds opened a beautiful new office on Jack Warner Parkway NE, designed to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment where patients can receive high-quality eye care and choose eyewear in one convenient location.
Originally from Homewood, Alabama, Dr. Bonds lives in Tuscaloosa with her husband, their two daughters, and their two beloved schnauzers. She values building long-term relationships with her patients and feels honored to serve the Tuscaloosa community.
Dr. Laura Bonds

Dr. Laura Bonds is a licensed optometrist providing comprehensive eye care in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She sees patients of all ages and has expertise in complex contact lens fittings, glaucoma evaluations, diabetic eye exams, and personalized vision care.
Dr. Bonds earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the UAB School of Optometry in 2014, after completing her undergraduate studies at Birmingham-Southern College. Following graduation, she joined her sister, Dr. Carrie Bonds, at The Family Eye Group and has been proudly serving patients in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding communities for over 10 years.
With a strong clinical background and a detail-oriented approach, Dr. Bonds enjoys helping patients achieve their clearest, most comfortable vision. She has a particular passion for contact lenses and takes pride in fine-tuning prescriptions to ensure optimal visual outcomes. She also enjoys helping patients select the right glasses prescription to support their daily activities and long-term eye health.
Originally from Homewood, Alabama, Dr. Bonds continues to call Homewood home, where she lives with her husband and their two dogs. She values building lasting relationships with her patients and feels grateful to be part of their ongoing eye health journey.
Dr. Melanie Chaney

Dr. Melanie Chaney is a licensed optometrist providing comprehensive eye care in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She sees patients of all ages and offers a wide range of services, from routine eye exams to medical eye care, with a focus on helping patients achieve clear, comfortable vision.
Dr. Chaney earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron and her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University. She practiced optometry in Ohio for nearly 20 years, gaining extensive clinical experience while serving a diverse patient population.
In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Chaney has volunteered globally with OneSight, helping bring essential eye care services to underserved communities. In 2020, she relocated to Alabama and joined The Family Eye Group, where she continues to provide thoughtful, patient-centered eye care.
Dr. Chaney’s optometry journey began in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, after her first eye exam sparked a passion for eye care. Prior to optometry school, she worked in an optometry office, learning the fundamentals of eyewear fitting and patient care—experience that continues to shape her approach today.
Outside of the office, Dr. Chaney enjoys photography with her husband, wood carving, and practicing Tai Chi. She values staying active and connected with her family, patients, and community.
