Dr. Carrie Bonds
Dr. Carrie Bonds was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the eldest of three children. She graduated from Homewood High School in 2000. She went on to attend University of Alabama, where she graduated Cum Laude in 2004. She completed her Doctorate of Optometry at UAB School of Optometry in 2009. While at UABSO she interned in primary care, pediatrics, ocular disease, and low vision. She also did externships at Vision America and the Birmingham VA hospital. Dr. Carrie spent her first years working in a private practice in Tuscaloosa. She served patients in Tuscaloosa, Greensboro, Eutaw, and Reform, as well as area nursing homes. She later worked with several other doctors in the community, before setting up her own practice inside of LensCrafters in the University Mall. She loves seeing patients from babies to the elderly. Dr. Carrie enjoys fitting contacts lenses and helping her patients achieve their best potential vision. When she is away from the office she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, and running.
Dr. Laura Bonds
Dr. Laura Bonds was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the middle of three children. She attended Homewood High School and later graduated from Birmingham Southern with an English degree in 2006. Her older sister, Carrie Bonds, inspired her to follow in her footsteps and pursue a degree in optometry. After completing the pre-requisite coursework, Dr. Laura was accepted into the UAB school of Optometry. In her fourth year, Dr. Laura interned in the pediatric, ocular disease, and low vision clinics. She also had the opportunity to visit nursing homes, low-income clinics, and pre-kindergarten programs to gain experience and provide eye exams to the community. Dr. Laura completed an externship at Vision America in Birmingham, and Vision First in Trussville. In 2014, Dr. Laura graduated from UABSO and joined her sister to work for the Family Eye Group in Tuscaloosa. She has enjoyed getting to meet the people of Tuscaloosa. HOW WE GOT STARTED
Dr. Carrie Bond’s first eye exam, as a young child, made quite the impression on her; one that would inspire the Family Eye Group years later. As she slipped on her first pair of glasses, the world came into a crisp focus and that feeling of excitement never left her. In fact, she inspired her younger sister, Dr. Laura Bonds, to follow in her footsteps. After graduating from UAB School of Optometry in 2009, Dr. Carrie Bonds moved to Tuscaloosa and gained five years of experience in the greater Tuscaloosa area. At that point, she was ready to start her own practice. The timing was perfect because Dr. Laura Bonds had just completed her optometry degree. The Family Eye Group began in 2014, with Dr. Carrie serving as a mentor to her younger sister. The sisters have enjoyed consulting one another on various cases and helping their patients achieve their best vision possible.
